Terms of Service

This is a working draft prepared ahead of Scrytale's public launch. It has not yet been reviewed by an attorney. Do not treat it as final or legally binding until that review is complete.

Acceptance of terms

By creating an account or using the Scrytale app or website, you agree to these Terms of Service and our Privacy Policy. If you don't agree, please don't use Scrytale.

What Scrytale is

Scrytale is a personal anime discovery engine. It generates recommendations based on your ratings, viewing signals, and taste profile. Scrytale is intentionally not a general-purpose anime tracker: your Seen list is the only list you can browse. "Not Interested" and "Want to Watch" are used only as private signals to improve your recommendations and are never shown as a browsable list to anyone, including you.

Eligibility

You must be at least 13 years old to use Scrytale. By creating an account, you confirm that you meet this requirement.

Your account

You're responsible for keeping your account credentials secure and for activity that happens under your account. Let us know at info@scrytale.app if you believe your account has been compromised.

Acceptable use

You agree not to:

Scrape, bulk-extract, or mirror Scrytale's catalog or recommendation data
Use Scrytale to rebuild or republish a competing anime list/tracker service
Attempt to access another user's account or private data
Use Scrytale in a way that violates the terms of our data sources, including AniList and MyAnimeList
Upload an abusive username, avatar, or any content that violates these terms

Public Profile

If you turn on Public Profile, your Seen list and the ratings on those titles become visible to other Scrytale users. You can turn this off at any time. Don't use Public Profile to display abusive, harassing, or unlawful content. We may disable a public profile that violates these terms. To report one, contact privacy@scrytale.app.

Anime data and artwork

Anime titles, descriptions, and artwork displayed in Scrytale are sourced from AniList and, in some cases, MyAnimeList, under those services' terms. Scrytale doesn't claim ownership of this content, and access to it through Scrytale doesn't grant you any rights to reuse or redistribute it. Scrytale is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by AniList or MyAnimeList.

Subscriptions and advertising

Scrytale's free tier is planned to include advertising, and a premium subscription with additional features is planned for the future. Neither is active yet — no payment is currently collected through the app, and any "premium" features referenced in the app before launch are not yet purchasable. We'll update these terms before either goes live.

Termination

You can stop using Scrytale and request deletion of your account at any time (see our Privacy Policy). We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these terms.

Disclaimers

Scrytale is provided "as is." Recommendations are generated algorithmically and are not guaranteed to match your taste every time. We don't guarantee the accuracy or completeness of anime data sourced from third parties.

Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, ScryTale, LLC is not liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of the app.

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms as Scrytale evolves. Material changes will be reflected by updating the "Last updated" date above.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the Commonwealth of Virginia, without regard to conflict-of-law principles.
