Who we are

Scrytale ("Scrytale," "we," "us") is operated by ScryTale, LLC, a Virginia limited liability company. This policy describes how we collect, use, and protect information when you use the Scrytale mobile app and this website.

What we collect

We collect the following categories of information:

• Account information — email address, username, and avatar, collected when you register.
• Taste and preference data — ratings you give anime, your Seen list, "Not Interested" and "Want to Watch" signals, calibration quiz answers, and head-to-head preference comparisons. This data exists specifically to power your recommendations.
• Usage data — actions like viewing, saving, or rating a recommendation, used to improve recommendation accuracy over time.
• Public profile data (only if you opt in) — see "Public Profile" below.
• Standard technical data — device type, app version, and similar diagnostic information needed to operate and troubleshoot the service.

How we use it

We use your information to:

• Generate and improve your personalized anime recommendations
• Operate your account and the features you use
• Maintain and improve the reliability of the app
• Communicate with you about your account, when necessary

We do not sell your personal information. Recommendations are never based primarily on what's popular — see our product description for how personalization works.

Who we share it with

We work with a small number of service providers to operate Scrytale:

• Supabase — our database, authentication, and file storage provider. Your account and taste data are stored on Supabase's infrastructure.
• AniList — the primary source of anime titles, descriptions, and artwork shown in the app. Scrytale is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by AniList.
• MyAnimeList — a backup source for anime data. Not yet active; this policy will be updated when it is. Scrytale is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by MyAnimeList.
• Future advertising and payment partners — Scrytale's free tier is planned to include advertising, and a premium subscription is planned for the future. Neither is active yet. We will update this policy, and disclose the specific partners involved, before either goes live.

We do not share your personal data with third parties for their own marketing purposes.

Public Profile

Public Profile is off by default. If you turn it on, other Scrytale users can see your Seen list and the ratings you've given those titles — nothing else. Your "Not Interested" and "Want to Watch" signals are never shown to anyone, under any setting, regardless of whether Public Profile is on.

You can turn Public Profile off at any time. If you believe another user's public profile (username, avatar, or content) is abusive or violates these terms, you can report it to privacy@scrytale.app — an in-app reporting flow is planned but not yet available.

Data retention and deletion

You can request deletion of your account and associated data at any time by emailing privacy@scrytale.app from your registered email address. A self-service deletion option inside the app is planned but not yet available.

When we process a deletion request, we remove your account data, including any public Seen list entries and ratings — deletion means removal, not just hiding the data from view. We aim to complete deletion requests within 30 days.

Children's privacy

Scrytale is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, contact privacy@scrytale.app and we will remove it.

Your rights

You can access, correct, export, or delete your personal data by contacting privacy@scrytale.app. Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights under local law; we'll honor applicable requests to the extent required.

Security

We use industry-standard safeguards to protect your data, including encrypted connections and database-level access controls that restrict every user's data to that user by default. No method of storage or transmission is perfectly secure, and we can't guarantee absolute security.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as Scrytale evolves. Material changes will be reflected by updating the "Last updated" date above, and for significant changes, we'll make a reasonable effort to notify you directly.

Governing law

This policy is governed by the laws of the Commonwealth of Virginia, without regard to conflict-of-law principles.
